1. Are you a licensed contractor?
Yes. 21st Century Home Improvement is a licensed General Contractor (License #682929) with classifications B-1 General Building Contractor; C33- Painting & Decorating; and C39- Roofing. We also carry a Home Improvement Certification from the California Contractors State License Board (CSLB).
2. Are you insured?
Yes. We have $2,000,000 coverage in General Liability Insurance as well as $1,000,000 coverage in Workers' Compensation Insurance.
3. What happens if there is any damage to my property or my neighbor's property, or a worker get injured on the job? Does 21st Century Home Improvement have liability insurance and worker's compensation?
Yes, 21st Century Home Improvement has full insurance coverage, including $2 million in Liability Insurance and $1 million in Worker's Compensation Insurance. This is a very important question to ask when hiring a contractor.
4. How long have you been in business?
21st Century Home Improvement was started in 1992. Prior to this, our owners worked in the home improvement industry for more than 30 years.
5. How long will the job take?
That depends on the size and type of job. Roofs usually take of few days. Painting projects usually last from a week to two and a half weeks. Retrofits generally take a week and a half to two and a half weeks. Of course, these times vary significantly depending on the size and condition of the home. Before we begin each job we advise the client on how long we expect the job to last. Once 21st Century Home Improvement starts a project, we continue working until the job is complete in order to stay on schedule and on budget.
6. What about permits?
21st Century Home Improvement takes care of all necessary plans, permits and inspections. Our familiarity with the building code and SF Building Department helps us navigate smoothly through this often tedious and time consuming aspect of home improvements.
7. What about all the new lead laws I've heard about? Do you test for lead?
The new city, state, and EPA lead laws require any structure built prior to 1978 to be tested for lead based paint. 21st Century Home Improvement specializes in lead containment. We perform a lead test before every exterior painting project. In addition, all of our painters have attended classes on proper lead containment procedures and have been trained and certified by the state. 8. When and how do I make payment?
21st Century Home Improvement does not require any up-front or half-way payments. Clients do not pay us until all work is completed according to contract and the client has signed a "Customer Satisfaction Certificate." We accept a variety of payment options.
